The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida welcomes more than 1.7 million space fans every year. One of its premier family attractions is Planet Play, a multi-story, fully interactive activity space designed to let kids scramble over planets, map constellations, and climb through imaginative space habitats.

One of the most popular areas is the enclosed crawl tunnels. Hundreds of energetic kids scramble through these elevated tubes every single day, tracking in fine Florida sand, shoes, and constant knee traffic across the transparent Lexan floor panels.

The Problem

While Lexan polycarbonate provides exceptional structural strength and child safety, the surface is soft and scratches easily under relentless abrasive friction. Non-stop shoe traffic and ground-in grit quickly ground down the transparent flooring, turning clear tunnel sections cloudy, frosted, and badly scratched. Replacing custom-molded Lexan tunnel panels is a massive chore that means high fabrication costs, heavy labor, and closing down a favorite exhibit to the public.

Solution

Facility managers chose TearOff Products to install modular 24″ × 30″ sections of our 16-mil heavy-duty 4-layer protective film stacks directly over the Lexan tunnel floors.
